While I do not consider myself a recipe developer or cook, I do like to think that I know how to make simple things special. My bandwidth for baking is zero, and I laugh at the thought of me assembling a casserole. The boys will tell stories of my excitement for hemp hearts on yogurt bowls before they say something like “she makes the best pie!” I have never made a pie.
I feel good about my training however - my children are mindful of what might be too much of one thing, and I stretch the importance of properly fueling your body over “healthy”. MJ has actually scolded my sugar intake before as I was caught once pressing chocolate chips into dates and eating them like Tic Tacs in the corner of our apartment kitchen. In a world full of options and extras, we are happy with simple, whole, basic.
